PDO Threads
PDO (Polydioxanone) smooth and lifting threads are minimally invasive cosmetic threads used to lift and tighten sagging skin, providing a non-surgical alternative to traditional facelift procedures. Smooth threads are typically thinner and stimulate collagen production, improving skin texture and elasticity, while lifting threads have barbs or cones that physically lift and support sagging tissues. Ideal candidates for PDO smooth and lifting threads are individuals experiencing mild to moderate skin laxity in areas such as the face, neck, or body, seeking improvement in sagging jowls, drooping cheeks, or loose skin on the neck or body. Clients should be in good general health and have realistic expectations about the outcomes of the procedure. A free consultation is required prior to scheduling to develop your customized treatment plan.
How do PDO Threads work? + -
PDO threads are made from Polydioxanone (PDO) a colorless, crystalline, biodegradable synthetic polymer. PDO sutures have been used in plastic, cardiology, traumatology, and gynecology surgery for more than 30 years. At Aligned Aesthetics we use the brand PDOmax threads because they are one of the few FDA in cannula approved threads and the strongest on the market.
The placement of PDO threads triggers your body to build new collagen (neo-collagenesis) which helps keep the skin firm and full. Additionally, PDO threads thicken skin tissue which strengthens the connective tissue of the skin. Barbed PDO threads provide lifting, repositioning of fat pads, and can be used to correct jowls, marionette lines, and provide a non-surgical face lift.
Smooth threads create support, smooth out wrinkles, narrow pores, increase skin elasticity, and improve skin texture. Some problems smooth threads can treat are under eye hollowing, acnes scars, wrinkle lines, and temple hollowing.
PDO threads absorb in approximately 6 months after placement depending on thread thickness. Results can be visualized within 1-2 weeks after PDO thread placement. However, the skin continues to improve over the next 6 months. Full results can be seen in 12-24 months depending on your age, metabolic activity of cells and skin.
I personally love PDO thread treatments because they can be used anywhere on your body, they stimulate collagen production, are safe, and results continue improve over time…it just keeps getting better.
How do I prepare for the treatment? + -
A consultation is required to develop your customized treatment plan prior to scheduling this service. I will use my skill and experience to minimize discomfort that occurs during the treatments. You may find it helpful to take (2) Extra-Strength TylenolTM (not ASA, Advil or Motrin) about 1 hour prior to your appointment. Most of our clients find the procedure much easier than they imagined. If you have had trouble with fainting or are afraid of injections, please let us know. Make sure you are well nourished and hydrated prior to your treatment. If you are anxious about your treatment, consider having a friend or relative come to drive you home after we are finished. Please remember to not bring children with you to the office as we cannot supervise them when you are having your treatment.
- If you have a history of medication allergies, anaphylaxis, cold sores or any other medical problems please inform me prior to your scheduled appointment.
- You may have some bruising, swelling and/or soreness after this procedure. Over the counter arnica supplements have been shown to decrease swelling. You may begin taking them 3 days prior to treatment or purchase them prior to treatment so you can begin using them immediately after your treatment.
- Do NOT use NSAIDs, Aspirin, Motrin, Fish oil, Vitamin E, gingko biloba, St. Johns wort, garlic pills, or other anti-inflammatory medications for 1-2 weeks before treatment if ok with your primary care physician (PCP) as they increase the risk of bruising.
- Avoid alcohol for 3 days prior to procedure to help decrease risk of bruising and bleeding.
What can I expect during the treatment? + -
Clinical photography will be taken of you prior to treatment and is an important part of the clinical record. Please arrive with a clean dry face. Your face will be cleansed with an antibacterial cleanser prior to treatment. I will then map out the vectors/areas on your body we are treating. I will use my skill and experience to minimize discomfort that occurs during the treatments. Most clients find the procedure much easier then they imagined. If necessary, I will numb the areas with lidocaine injections. Once you are numb the thread placement will begin. The procedure can take up to an hour depending on the type of threads being placed (lifting vs smooth threads).
